We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague, Roy Ballard. Roy’s distinguished 37-year career with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, followed by his tenure as Chief Engineer at Matrix Research, reflected his exceptional intellect, technical leadership, and unwavering commitment to innovation.

Roy’s impact at Matrix extended far beyond his professional contributions. His warmth, humor, and humility radiated throughout our halls, touching everyone who had the privilege of working with him. We are profoundly diminished by his absence.

Many of us were fortunate to know Roy for decades. While nothing can fill the void he leaves behind, the memories we shared—and the example he set—continue to inspire us every day.

We honor Roy’s legacy by striving to uphold the high standards he exemplified, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Deborah, his children, grandchildren, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life.
